De kerk uit de zestiende eeuw wordt volledig verwoest tijdens de oorlog. De ruïnes roken nog als in juni 1919 het puin geruimd wordt. Louis-Marie Cordonnier herbouwt de kerk tussen 1924 en 1927 in neogotische stijl met byzantijnse en art-decoinvloeden. De kerk wordt gemeubileerd dankzij door aartspriester Pruvost op gang gebrachte intekeningen. In het koor hangt een herdenkingsplaat voor de burgers, in het noordelijke transept een herdenkingsmonument voor de aanwezigheid van het Britse imperium en een kapel voor de Barmhartigen, die tijdens de oorlog gewoon doorgingen met het begraven van overledenen.
