Ongeveer 12.000 professionals uit de televisie- en entertainmentindustrie komen iedere oktober in Cannes samen om internationale shows aan te kopen en verkopen; maar ook, en steeds meer, om te onderhandelen met de nieuwe platforms. Deze nieuwe spelers zijn steeds meer aanwezig op het evenement, evenals op MIPTV, het zuster evenement van MIPCOM, dat in april plaatsvindt.
Het wordt voorafgegaan door MIPJunior, een kijk- en conferentie-evenement rond televisiecontent voor kinderen.
