Pontyclun is een dorp en gemeente gelegen in het graafschap Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. Net als de omliggende steden heeft het in de afgelopen tien jaar een scherpe stijging van de bevolking gezien, aangezien mensen naar het zuiden migreren vanuit de Valleien in het zuiden van Wales en vanuit de hoofdstad Cardiff naar het westen.
Pontyclun vertaalt uit het Welsh als 'brug [over] de rivier Clun', waarbij de Clun een zijrivier is van de rivier Ely die door Pontyclun stroomt. Een brug steekt de Afon Clun net boven de samenvloeiing met de Ely over.
