Coniston is een civil parish in het Engelse graafschap Cumbria en maakt deel uit van Lake District. Het plaatsje is gelegen aan het noordelijke einde van het op twee na grootste meer van het Lake District: Coniston Water. Op dit meer worden rondvaarten met een stoomjacht aangeboden.
Aan de westelijke zijde van Coniston ligt de Old Man of Coniston, de hoogste berg van de omgeving, 803 m hoog. Hij is populair bij wandelaars en rotsbeklimmers en goed aangegeven wandelpaden leiden naar zijn top. In het verleden dolf men hier naar koper en leisteen. Ook Tarn Hows, een kunstmatig gecreëerd meer ten noordoosten van Coniston trekt ieder jaar veel bezoekers om zijn mooie omgeving.
