Het Piacenziaan is een periode in het Plioceen. Het Piacenziaan werd in 1858 in de wetenschappelijke literatuur geïntroduceerd door de Zwitserse stratigraaf Karl Mayer-Eymar. Het is vernoemd naar deze Italiaanse stad Piacenza. Het is een periode van opwarming (de piacenziaanse fase van het plioceen - circa 3 miljoen jaar geleden), waarin de temperaturen meer dan 3 °C stegen en de zeespiegel twintig meter hoger lag dan nu, en er meer koolstofdioxide in de atmosfeer aanwezig was dan ooit.
