De basiliek van Santa Maria Maggiore is een belangrijke rooms-katholieke kerk met de rang van basilica maior. Ze is gelegen op de Esquilijnheuvel in Rome, en behoort tot het grondgebied van de Heilige Stoel. De basiliek is een van de zeven pelgrimskerken van Rome, en is de enige van de vier pauselijke basilieken in Rome waarvan het antieke bouwwerk intact bewaard is gebleven. Ze is vooral beroemd om de mozaïeken uit de 5e en de 13e eeuw.
