Het dorp Wolkenstein, ook wel bekend als Selva di Gardena, is met 1563 meter het hoogstgelegen dorp van Val Gardena. Wolkenstein heeft de meest uitgebreide skimogelijkheden van Val Gardena en biedt de meest directe aansluiting op de Sella Ronda.
De St.-Jakobskerk ligt op een berghelling boven Ortisei, op de oude weg “Troi Paian”. Het is de oudste kerk van de vallei en alleen te voet bereikbaar.
