Het ligt ten noordwesten van Drachten, ten zuidwesten van Nijega en ten oosten van het Nationaal Park De Oude Venen, dat voor een deeltje binnen het dorpsgebied valt. Even verderop lopen de Kooisloot, de Zustervaart en de Oude Geeuw. Langs het zuidelijke dorpsgebied lopen de Sitebuurster Ee, de Kromme Ee, Grietmansrak, Wijde Ee, het Slobbegat, Monnike Ee en de Nieuwe Monnikegreppel.
