Het dorp Langeaar wordt gedomineerd door de Rooms-Katholieke St. Adrianuskerk (1902). Langeraar lag vroeger waar nu Ter Aar ligt, maar het werd in januari 1788 na een dijkdoorbraak bij het Braassemermeer weggevaagd. Het dorp werd op de huidige plaats opnieuw opgebouwd. Later werd op de plaats van het oude Langeraar toch weer een dorp gebouwd dat de naam Ter Aar kreeg.
