In opdracht van de Stichting Oorlogsmonument Zuidzande, een initiatief van Cornélie van de Reepe.
Onthuld op 5 november 2004 door J. Suurmond, gedeputeerde van de provincie Zeeland. Het monument werd geadopteerd door de openbare basisschool in het dorp, om zo de herinnering aan de Tweede Wereldoorlog levend te houden.
