Mgr. Hopmans heeft de kapel op 2 september 1939 ingewijd. Het Willibrordusbeeld werd ontworpen door Luc van Hoek uit Goirle en gemaakt door Sjef van Gool uit Baarle.
De kapel werd in de oorlog gebruikt als wachtpost en werd verwoest. In 1946 werd deze opgebouwd door architecten Jacobs en Muis en opnieuw ingewijd. In 1976 moest de kapel na verwaarlozing opnieuw worden opgebouwd onder architectuur van J. Backx. De Willibrordusput bevindt zich onder het vloertje. In 2000 kon de terracotta plaquette met het wapen van mgr Hopmans worden teruggeplaatst.
De Stichting Kapel van Boshoven is in 2003 eigenaar geworden van de kapel, de grond waar het op stond bleek nog te behoren tot het aanliggende bosperceel!
