Bij een bomaanslag in Oklahoma City van 19 april 1995 vielen 168 doden en 800 gewonden toen het Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building getroffen werd door een autobom, geplaatst door ex-soldaat Timothy McVeigh. Tot 11 september 2001 was het de grootste terroristische aanslag binnen de landsgrenzen van de Verenigde Staten.
Negentig minuten na de aanslag werd bij toeval de 27-jarige hoofdschuldige McVeigh aangehouden op de snelweg omdat hij zonder een kentekenplaat reed. Een paar dagen na de aanslag werden McVeigh en Terry Nichols gearresteerd voor hun betrokkenheid bij de aanslag.
