Aquest mirador és un homenatge a Fernão de Magalhães (Fernando de Magallanes), el famós explorador portuguès considerat la primera persona a circumnavegar el món i nascut a Sabrosa.
Encara que no va sobreviure al viatge ( va morir el 1521 a l'illa de Mactan (ara part de les Filipines)), la seva flota va completar la primera circumnavegació completa de la Terra, una fita en la història mundial.
Saborosa honra el seu cèlebre nadiu amb diversos monuments i esdeveniments culturals. La ciutat manté relacions internacionals amb països que van participar en el viatge de Magallanes, com les Filipines, Xile, Argentina i Brasil. Aquests vincles no només contribueixen a mantenir viu el llegat de Magallanes, sinó que també enforteixen l'atractiu cultural i turístic de la regió.
