Sommerdæmningen (som den i folkemunde kaldes) blev anlagt i middelalderen for at beskytte markene nord for Haacht mod oversvømmelse. Dæmningen er cirka en kilometer lang og forbinder sandbakkerne i Wilde Heide med det relativt højere område syd for Hansbro over Dijle.
