Legende Brugse zot
Efter at de havde fængslet Maximilian I af Østrig i deres kamp for autonomi i en periode, forbød han afholdelsen af en årsmærket og andre festligheder.
I et forsøg på at berolige ham, holdt Brugge et stort fest for ham og bad derefter om tilladelse til igen at holde en årsmærket, indkræve skatter og ... bygge et nyt zothus.
Han svarede: "Luk alle porte til Brugge, og du har et zothus!"
