Bredeney er en sydlig bydel i byen Essen. De nærliggende bydele er i syd Fischlaken og Werden, i vest Schuir og Haarzopf, i nord Margarethenhöhe, Rüttenscheid og Stadtwald samt i øst Heisingen.
Den første omtale af Bredeney findes i forbindelse med indvielsen af en kirke i Werden den 10. november 875. I året 1036 lod Abt Gerold bygge et kapel i Bredeney til ære for den allerhelligste treenighed. Adolf von der Mark byggede i 1226 huset Baldeney, som i dag er kendt som Slot Baldeney.
