Dillenburger Slot, der fra 1520'erne blev udbygget til en moderne fæstning, var hovedresidensen for greverne af Nassau-Dillenburg. Især bolig- og økonomibygningerne blev ødelagt i syvårskrigen i 1760, og i 1768 blev fæstningsanlæggene jævnet med jorden. Kasematterne fra det 16. århundrede er delvist bevaret. Mellem 1872 og 1875 blev Wilhelmstårnet opført på den tidligere øvre slotsgård efter tegninger af bygmester Friedrich Albert Cremer.
