Den Store Hundeshoved er et 824 m højt bjerg ved Rennsteig i Thüringer Wald. Det ligger 3 km syd for Stützerbach og kun knap 1 km nordøst for den kun lidt under toppen liggende Frauenwald-distrikt Allzunah i Ilm-Kreis, Thüringer Wald.
Fra sydvest for Hundehovedet afdeles der mod syd uden væsentlige dale imellem den ca. 8 km lange, af Nahe mod vest og Schleuse mod øst begrænsede Staudenkopf-ryg med Store Riesenhaupt ved Frauenwald, Schmiedswiesenkopf og Kolde Staudenkopf. Adskilt fra denne ryg af Trenkbach går Rennwegkopf 751 m mod øst for Frauenwald direkte syd fra Hundskopf.
