Bygningen tilhørte oprindeligt vognmanden Auguste Wirtgen. Efter hans død blev bygningen i 1889 overdraget til kommunen, som brugte den som rådhus indtil 1959. Udover administrationen og den kommunale kunstgalleri i Diekirch huser den i dag blandt andet klasser for Diekirch-afdelingen af Musikskolen Conservatoire de Musique du Nord.
