Museum Het Bolwerk viser, hvordan beboerne i den Zeeuws-Vlaamse grænseområde i løbet af århundrederne forsvarede sig mod fjendtlige angreb. Historien begynder ved det romerske castellum i Aardenburg og slutter ved bunkerne fra Anden Verdenskrig. Samlingens tyngdepunkt ligger på de Staats-Spaanse Linies, et unikt kompleks af befæstede byer, fæstninger, skanser og linjer fra Trediveårskrigen (1568-1648). Unikt, fordi en del af Hollands historie stadig kan ses og føles i landskabet her.
