Der Vrijdagsmarkt war einst der wichtigste Platz der Stadt. Die meisten Gebäude am Vrijdagsmarkt stammen aus dem 18. Jahrhundert, das sozialistische Volkshaus (Ons Huis, Bond Moyson) sogar aus dem frühen 20. Jahrhundert. Obwohl das große Jugendstilfenster und das Hufeisenfenster die Aufmerksamkeit auf sich ziehen, ist es ein Beispiel für 'Stilmischung' oder Eklektizismus. Hier befand sich einst die erste volksmedizinische Klinik von Gent.
