Im Jahre 1858 wird die Eisenbahnlinie von Brüssel nach Luxemburg eröffnet und als 1873 die Eisenbahngesellschaft des belgischen Staates Eigentümerin des Netzes wird, wird der Bau eines neuen Bahnhofs in Angriff genommen. Das Holz- und Steingebäude, das bis dato die Reisenden empfing, wird durch einen eindrucksvollen Bahnhof ersetzt, der gemäß den Plänen des Provinzial-Architekten VAN DE WYNGAERT (1884-1885) aus lothringischem Kalkstein und blauem Stein gebaut wird. Kurz danach werden einerseits die Zufahrtswege zum Bahnhof mit bemerkenswerten Jugendstilhäusern versehen und andererseits das bescheidene Viertel der Eisenbahner (Schoppach) eingerichtet. Die „Avenue de la Gare“ ist 2002-2003 völlig renoviert worden.
