Während des Ersten Weltkriegs lag Leffinge nicht direkt in der Schusslinie, wurde jedoch von den deutschen Truppen besetzt. Die Soldaten kamen dort zur Erholung von der Front.
Auch viele Gefallene wurden nach Leffinge gebracht und rund um die Kirche auf dem bestehenden Friedhof beigesetzt. Als dieser zu klein wurde, richteten die deutschen Soldaten etwas weiter unten in der Dorpsstraat einen neuen militärischen Friedhof ein.
Als zentrales Gebäude auf dem neuen Friedhof wurde 1915 ein Leichenschauhaus von deutschen Soldaten nach einem Entwurf von Hauptmann Löwenstein erbaut.
Es wurde ein niedriges Backsteingebäude mit Buntglasfenstern und einem Christuskopf. Innen gab es Namenslisten der Gefallenen, schieferne Bodenfliesen und zentral stand ein Altar.
Nach dem Krieg wurde der militärische Friedhof in einen zivilen Friedhof umgewandelt und der Friedhof rund um die Kirche verschwand.
