Die Abtei Ter Doest wurde 1106 von den französischen Benediktinern von Saint-Riquier in Pothieu gegründet. Etwa 70 Jahre später übernehmen die Zisterzienser die Abtei und ziehen eine Refektorium, einen Kapitelraum, einige Schlafsäle, ein Skriptorium, eine Bibliothek und eine Kirche hoch. Heute kann die imposante Abteischuur, die 1275 erbaut wurde, noch bewundert werden. In der angrenzenden Abteivorstadt aus dem 17. Jahrhundert befindet sich das Restaurant Hof Ter Doest. Man kann dort lecker essen, aber auch übernachten und eine ländliche Wellness genießen.
