Nach der Zerstörung des Dorfes im Jahr 1489 blieb von der Kirche nur der romanische Turm aus dem 12. Jahrhundert stehen. Die Overijser gaben den Mut nicht auf und begannen mit dem Wiederaufbau der Kirche im gotischen Stil. Im Jahr 1692 brannte die Kirche während eines Brandes erneut nieder. Sie wurde wieder aufgebaut und im 19. Jahrhundert underwent eine letzte neugotische Restaurierung. Unter dem Chor befindet sich die Gruft der Herren von Overijse aus den letzten zweihundert Jahren des Ancien Régime (17. bis 18. Jahrhundert).
