Westfront Nieuwpoort zeigt dir jetzt die gesamte Geschichte der Überflutung der Polderfläche während des Ersten Weltkriegs, wodurch die deutsche Invasion vor Nieuwpoort gestoppt wurde. Eine Geschichte über die Kraft des Meerwassers und das geschickte Steuern von Schleusen und Schotten.
Der ideale Ort, um die Geschichte der Überflutung zu erzählen, ist das König-Albert-I.-Denkmal am Rande des Schleusenkomplexes 'De Ganzepoot'. Unter dem Denkmal hat Nieuwpoort ein zeitgemäßes und interaktives Besucherzentrum eingerichtet. Ein Höhepunkt des Besuchs ist sicher die Projektion des zum Leben erweckten IJzerpanoramas, ursprünglich ein Gemälde von 115 m Länge und 15 m Höhe.
Vergiss auch nicht, den Aufzug zur Spitze des König-Albert-I.-Denkmals selbst zu nehmen, um das Panorama über die Küste und die Polder der Westhoek zu genießen.
