Dies ist eine Straße, die eigentlich „Damanstraße“ heißen sollte. Die Arbeiterfamilie, aktiv im Widerstand. Im Februar 1944 fiel die Gestapo in ihre Wohnung in der Pleinstraße ein. Der Vater wurde über Breendonk nach Buchenwald deportiert. Tochter Hortense und ihre Mutter kamen in Ravensbrück unter. Sie überlebten alle das Konzentrationslager. Hortense heiratete 1946 den britischen Soldaten Syd Clews, den sie während des Krieges als Widerstandskämpferin bei der Flucht nach England geholfen hatte. In ihrem neuen Wohnort Newcastle-under-Lyme wurde die Straße Clews Walk nach ihr benannt. Mark Bles widmete ihr ein Buch über ihr Widerstandleben mit dem Titel: Child at War, das ins Niederländische übersetzt und von der Standaard-Verlag veröffentlicht wurde.
