Die verstärkte Burg von Écaussinnes ist ein mittelalterliches Juwel. Sie hatte eine strategische Lage an einem Fußweg über die Sennette, der das Herzogtum Brabant vom Grafschaft Hennegau trennte. Sie wurde im 12. Jahrhundert auf einem felsigen Ausläufer der Lalaing-Kalksteinformation (LAL) erbaut. Wie wir auf dem Foto sehen können, weist dieser Kalkstein eine Schieferstruktur auf, ist tonhaltig und reich an Fossilien.
