Das Huis Ter Beurze war früher zusammen mit der Saaihalle (heute Frittenmuseum) und der Florentiner Loge Teil des Oude Beursplein . Der ehemalige Platz ist jetzt Teil der Vlamingstraat.
Im späten Mittelalter war dies das Finanzzentrum der Stadt. Der Platz ist nach der Familie Van der Buerse benannt.
Die damalige Ansicht des Platzes ist durch eine Tafel aus Flandria Illustrata von Antonius Sanderus (1641) bekannt.
Ab dem 14. Jahrhundert entstand unter italienischen und anderen Kaufleuten der Brauch, sich hier zum Handel zu versammeln.
Die Börse fand auf dem Platz selbst und nicht in einem Gebäude statt, aber mehrere Häuser auf dem Platz hatten Vordächer, unter denen man Schutz vor dem Wetter suchen konnte. Die Geschäfte auf dem Platz wurden streng kontrolliert. Der Handel wurde zum Glockenschlag eröffnet und geschlossen.
