Heiligenberg liegt im oberen Linzgau, etwa vier Kilometer nördlich von Salem, und befindet sich direkt an einer eiszeitlichen Moränenkante, welche den um bis zu 400 Meter höher gelegenen oberen zum unteren Linzgau abgrenzt. Aufgrund seiner Lage bietet sich von Heiligenberg ein außergewöhnlicher Panoramablick auf den Bodensee und die Alpen, es gilt daher auch als „Aussichtsterrasse des Bodensees“.
