In Rocamadour kannst du das vermeintliche Fragment von Durandal sehen, dem Schwert von Karl dem Großen's Paladin Roland in der literarischen Reihe, die als die Frage von Frankreich bekannt ist. Laut Ludovico Ariosto's Orlando Furioso war es einst im Besitz von Hektor von Troja und wurde von Malagigi (Maugris) an Roland gegeben. Der Name stammt wahrscheinlich von dem französischen Verb "durer", "verweilen". In Das Lied von Roland wird gesagt, dass das Schwert in seinem goldenen Griff einen Zahn von Saint Peter, Blut von Saint Basil, Haare von Saint Denis und ein Stück der Kleidung der Heiligen Jungfrau Maria enthält.
