Die französische Stadt Lons-le-Saunier ist mit 17.189 Einwohnern die Hauptstadt des Départements Jura. Sie ist auch Sitz der Unterpräfektur des Arrondissements Lons-le-Saunier und Hauptort der Kantone Lons-le-Saunier-1 und Lons-le-Saunier-2.Die Stadt befindet sich etwa auf halber Strecke zwischen Dole im Norden und Bourg-en-Bresse im Süden. Sie wird vom Fluss Vallière durchflossen; er verläuft jedoch weitgehend unterirdisch, um die Hochwassergefahr zu verringern.
