Yorkshire ist die mit Abstand größte ehemalige Grafschaft in Nordengland und im Vereinigten Königreich. Wegen ihrer Größe wurden deren Funktionen im Laufe der Zeit immer mehr von Untereinheiten übernommen. Trotz zahlreicher territorialer Veränderungen im Laufe der Jahrhunderte bewahrte sich Yorkshire seine Bedeutung als geografische Bezeichnung sowie als Kulturraum. Yorkshire wird von seinen Bewohnern oft auch als God’s Own County bezeichnet.
