Die oberste Karte von Methoni stammt aus der zweiten Hälfte des 17. Jahrhunderts. Man kann bereits einige Behausungen außerhalb der Mauern der ummauerten Stadt sehen, aber der Höhenzug, auf dem der größte Teil von Methoni heute erbaut ist, war noch fast leer. Die Besiedlung dieses Gebiets begann erst nach der griechischen Revolution in der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Dann entwarfen einige französische Ingenieure den ersten Stadtplan für eine Stadt im neuen griechischen Staat: das moderne Methoni. Dieser Plan stammt aus dem Jahr 1829. Der Plan erhielt auch die Unterschrift von Kapodistrias, dem ersten Führer Griechenlands, zur Genehmigung.
