Das kleine Dorf Esch-sur-Sûre - 250 Einwohner - liegt auf einer Art Halbinsel, die von der Sauer umgeben ist. Es gilt als eines der schönsten Dörfer im Großherzogtum Luxemburg. Es wird von einem Turmstumpf und einigen Überresten der mittelalterlichen Burg (927) dominiert. Der Felsen scheint aus dem Fluss zu kommen. Esch blieb lange Zeit ein isoliertes Dorf. Um es zu öffnen, wurde 1850 ein Tunnel gebohrt. Ein zweiter Tunnel wurde 1954 zum Damm und zum See gegraben. Dieser künstliche See, der für die Bedürfnisse der Wasserversorgung errichtet wurde, ist so in die Landschaft integriert, dass er wie eine Laune der Natur erscheint.
