Dieser Kanal wurde um 1930 gegraben, um eine notwendige Ost-West-Verbindung zwischen der Vecht und Hilversum zu schaffen. Er war Teil eines umfassenden Erschließungsplans für diese Region, zu dem auch der Bau der Provinzstraße gehörte, die parallel zum Kanal verläuft. Dieser Plan wurde von Hauptinspektor der Rijkswaterstaat Anton Mussert entworfen, der 1934 aufgrund seiner NSB-Aktivitäten aus dem Ministerium entlassen werden sollte. Durch seine Pläne wurde die Region viel besser zugänglich, was sich positiv auf die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung ausgewirkt hat.
