Kurz nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg unternahmen die Belgier einen Versuch, die niederländische Provinz Limburg an Belgien anzuschließen. Dies geschah während der Verhandlungen der "Sieger des Ersten Weltkriegs" in der Quai d'Orsay im Jahr 1919. Sie wollten sowohl Zeeland-Flandern als auch das niederländische Limburg annektieren. "Beide Gebiete gehören historisch, linguistisch und kulturell zu Flandern", so das Argument. Man war der Meinung, dass es sich nur um ein historisches Missgeschick der Vergangenheit handelte, das korrigiert werden musste. Doch dieses "Fest" fand nicht statt...
