Vermutlich wurde der Bau der Kirche 1220 begonnen. Viele Jahre später folgte die Belagerung von 's-Hertogenbosch. Nach dem Fall der spanischen Festung 's-Hertogenbosch fand am Mittwoch, den 19. September 1629, der erste reformierte Gottesdienst in der Sint-Jan statt. Ein wichtiges Ereignis für die Bosschenaren.
Diverse wichtige Ereignisse haben sich in dieser Kirche abgespielt, wie die Delegation von Napoleon Bonaparte, der Brand von 1584 und die vielen Restaurierungen, durch die die Kirche in ihrem heutigen Zustand erhalten geblieben ist. Diese jahrhundertealte Kirche kann besucht und sogar bestiegen werden. Das Museum nimmt dich mit auf eine Reise durch die Entstehungsjahre und präsentiert außergewöhnliche archäologische Funde.
