Zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde die Gepflogenheit, die Toten bei der Kirche zu beerdigen, beendet. Der damalige Bürgermeister von Ermelo, C.L. Vitringa, verkaufte ein Stück Land an die Gemeinde, das 1829 als Friedhof in Gebrauch genommen wurde: 'De Kruiskamp'. 1925 wurde der Friedhof offiziell geschlossen. 1996 wurde der Friedhof in die kommunale Denkmalliste aufgenommen, das Grün renoviert und einige Gräber wurden restauriert.
