Schimmert ist eines der höchstgelegenen Dörfer der Niederlande. Es liegt auf einem Plateau am Rande des Heuvellands. Es zeichnet sich durch ein reiches Vereinsleben aus. Schimmert gehört zur Gemeinde Beekdaelen und bis zum 31. Dezember 2018 zur Gemeinde Nuth, die in der Provinz Limburg liegt. Die wichtigste Straße ist die Hoofdstraat, an der die Kirche liegt. Schimmert hat 3.195 Einwohner und gehörte zwischen 1982 und 2019 zur Gemeinde Nuth.
