Der Leuchtturm von Marken, der heute ein Rijksmonument ist, steht an der östlichen Spitze der Insel. Er wurde 1839 nach einem Entwurf des Architekten J. Valk erbaut und erhielt schnell den Spitznamen „Das Pferd von Marken.“ Seit 1700 stand an derselben Stelle ein quadratisches Feuerzeichen. In späteren Perioden wurden Gebäude hinzugefügt, die dem Turm seine charakteristische Form gaben. 1814 erhielt der Turm eine Nebelglocke, und 1839 wurde der runde Turm auf dem Fundament des Feuerzeichens erbaut. 1919 wurde die Nebelglocke durch einen Nebelhorn ersetzt.
Regelmäßig hat der Leuchtturm im Winter mit treibendem Eis zu kämpfen, das ein mehr als spektakuläres Aussehen verleiht. 1971 war es so schlimm, dass der Turm einige Zentimeter von seiner Stelle gedrückt wurde. Momentan wird der Leuchtturm bewohnt.
