Das Universitätsmedizinische Zentrum Groningen ist ein Krankenhaus in der Stadt Groningen. Die drei Kerntätigkeiten sind Gesundheitsversorgung, Ausbildung und Forschung. Das Krankenhaus befindet sich im Stadtteil Centrum von Groningen. Das UMCG ist der Zusammenschluss, der am 13. Januar 2005 zwischen dem ehemaligen Akademischen Krankenhaus Groningen und der Fakultät für Medizin der Rijksuniversität Groningen entstanden ist. In den Niederlanden sind die Universitäten für die Forschungs- und Bildungspolitik verantwortlich, während die akademischen Krankenhäuser für die Patientenversorgung, die Funktion als Ausbildungsstätte und die Ausbildung zum Facharzt verantwortlich sind. Diese Aufgaben sind untrennbar miteinander verbunden.
