Die verwüstete Stadt ist eine Skulptur, die Ossip Zadkine anlässlich des Bombardements auf Rotterdam geschaffen hat. Sie wurde am 15. Mai 1953 enthüllt und steht auf dem Plein 1940, am Leuvehaven, neben dem Maritimen Museum in Rotterdam. Die Skulptur ist ein Rijksmonument.
Die Skulptur besteht aus Bronze und stellt eine menschliche Figur ohne Herz dar, das Symbol für das Herz von Rotterdam, das beim Bombardement verloren ging. Die Skulptur möchte das menschliche Leiden verkörpern, dem eine Stadt ausgesetzt ist, die, mit Gottes Gnade, lediglich leben und blühen wollte wie ein Wald. Ein Schrei des Entsetzens über die unmenschliche Grausamkeit dieses Hinrichtungswerks.
Im Laufe der Jahre hat die Skulptur der Rotterdamer eine Reihe von Spitznamen erhalten. Neben "Die verwüstete Stadt" ist die Skulptur auch als "Stadt ohne Herz" und "Jan Gat" bekannt.
