Der Kanal verläuft von der Hoge Vaart nach Südosten und endet im Hulkesteinse Wald bei der Wielse Tocht. Der Kanal und der angrenzende Streifen dienen als ökologische Verbindung zwischen einerseits der Hoge Vaart und andererseits dem Hulkesteinse Wald und dem angrenzenden Horsterwold. In kleinerem Maßstab bildet der Rassenbeektocht ebenfalls die ökologische Verbindung zwischen zwei am Kanal angrenzenden Naturschutzgebieten, dem Gorzenveld im Nordosten bei der Gooiseweg und dem Gruttoveld, das sich etwa auf halbem Wege an der Südwestseite des Rassenbeektocht befindet. Die Gebiete werden von Het Flevolandschap verwaltet.
