In der Nähe des Dorfes Alcalar, auf halbem Weg zwischen den Stränden von Alvor und der Serra de Monchique, es war einmal eine große prähistorische Siedlung des 3. Jahrtausends v. Chr., Überreste, von denen rückgängig bleiben. Dieser Ort war die hegemoniale Zentrum eines Gebietes durch bäuerliche Gemeinschaften bewohnt verteilt in kleinen Dörfern an den Ufern der Ria de Alvor, in den fruchtbaren Böden der inneren Barrocal und südlichen Hängen der Serra de Monchique.
