Das Königreich Illyrien war von 1816 bis 1849 ein Kronland Österreichs. Die Hauptstadt war Ljubljana, das damals häufiger auf Deutsch Laibach genannt wurde.
Bis 1797 war das Gebiet zwischen der Republik Venedig und Österreich aufgeteilt, doch der größte Teil Venedigs kam zu Österreich, nachdem Napoleon Frankreich Venedig besetzt hatte. 1805 gehörte Illyrien jedoch zum Königreich Italien, das tatsächlich ein französischer Vasallenstaat war, dies aufgrund des neuen Krieges zwischen Österreich und Frankreich.
