Roten, brakelen, and zwingelen. We pull out the flax dictionary on our way to the Preetjes Molen in Heule. This last working flax scutching mill in Europe is named after the former miller Ivo Deprez († 1913). In 1866, he coupled the mill with wind power to process flax. At its peak, Heule had no fewer than ten scutching mills!
The mill is on the list for renovation.
