In the north of France, bordering Belgium, Le Quesnoy marks the entrance to Avesnois.
Formerly occupied by the Counts of Hainaut, the city became one of Vauban's works (under Louis XIV), whose fortifications are still almost intact today.
Today, the city is characterized by the presence of a truly unique monumental heritage, which allows it to showcase its identity as a strong city like waving a banner!
The city has chosen to support its cultural and tourism policies on a series of activities that are deeply intertwined with the fortification space. The quality of the communal heritage promotes a significant number of events that enliven the life of the Quercitain country: from grazing on the glacis during the milk festival to historical reenactments and military commemorations, renewing the perception one may have of the city’s bastioned spaces.
Since 2014, Le Quesnoy has been committed to a clear objective of tourism development and has also cultivated a very strong friendship with New Zealand, since its brave soldiers liberated it in 1918. Every Anzac Day and throughout the year, many visitors from the other side of the world come to relive this memory, and the future museum will further strengthen this presence and the cultural exchanges between our two countries!
