The Tower of Constança was erected in 1242 in Aigüesmortes by Louis IX on the site of the Torre Matafère, built by Charlemagne around 790, to protect the king's garrison. The works were completed in 1254.
The diameter is 22m and its height up to the top of the lantern is 33m. The thickness of the walls at the base is 6m.
