The company was founded in 1811 by Charles Gabriel de Cazanove. It was his son Charles Nicolas who helped the company grow into an important champagne house. After various acquisitions (by, among others, Martini, Moët - Hennessy), the company came into the hands of the firm Rapeneau in 2004 (which also owns Champagne Mansard Baillet and Champagne G.H. Martel & Co.).
